Baylor College of Medicine's current intellectual property policy, which allocates 40% of net income to inventors, was adopted in 2001. The prior policy, which allocates 50% of net income to inventors, appears to have been in effect at least as early as 1995.

2001 Policy
Payments based on Net Income shall be made by the College in accordance with the following schedule:
- 40% to the Developer(s)
- 30% to the College General Fund
- 30% to the Department(s)
"Net Income" shall mean all Income received by the College in consideration for the conveyance of rights to Baylor Intellectual Property, less fifteen percent management fee payable to the BLG and any and all costs and expenses incurred by or for the account of the College...

The Net Income is then distributed as follows:
- 50 percent to the developer(s) of the technology,
- 25 percent to the developer's department,
- 25 percent to the Baylor General Fund
